You might think hurricanes in the first two years would dampen the spirit of the Sebring LSA Expo, but fortunately organizers have proven up to the task of building a new aviation event. Sebring overcame its weather challenges to become a significant show next occurring January 11-14, 2007. The U.S Sport Aviation Expo at Sebring, Florida is the country’s largest concentrated gathering of Light-Sport Aircraft. More than 100 aircraft are expected. Up 20% over last year, the exhibitor list is a who’s who of LSA manufacturers, importers, and suppliers. EAA hosts the forums which help explain the new rule. Company representatives make presentations. Media support is provided by Tampa Tribune and Channel 8 TV. “We don’t have jet powered trucks, but if you want to learn more about LSA, the exciting new segment of fun flying, or to get a demonstration ride, Sebring is the place to come,” said Sebring Expo boss, Bob Wood.

Sebring Expo Postponed; Big Announcement Delayed
Sebring’s U.S. Sport Aviation Expo has been postponed due to complications related to Hurricane Wilma. The Expo has rescheduled for January 12-15, 2006. Despite the weather situation, another significant Sebring airport news announcement is imminent. SPLOG will have more on this story soon. Sebring is home to the Expo, to Lockwood Aviation’s successful enterprise, and to the new CubAir Academy. It’s also home to Floatplanes & Amphibs (FP&A), the outfit that burst on the scene a couple years ago and has rapidly gathered momentum. FP&A has already taken over the Ukrainian Aeroprakt distributorship (Spectrum Aircraft’s John Hunter now works with FP&A) and the company represents Quicksilver, AirBorne trikes, Powrachute PPCs, and the Drifter which they’ve played a role in redesigning. But what’s coming is much bigger and this exciting news will be announced as soon as a new venue can be selected.
Colyaer Spanish Designs on Display at Sebring Expo
Another design has made its way to American shores and will be available for examination at the 2005 Sebring Expo (see the event link to the left of your screen). LSA Aero, an importer based in Tanner, Alabama, is introducing the Spanish designs of Colyaer. The design has three family members, a land plane — the Martin 3; plus two seaplanes, one boat hull and one amphibian — the Gannet and the Freedom. All feature wingspans over 40 feet which provide a strong 20+ glide ratio. They also offer exceptional visibility with a high wing aft of the cockpit.
Sebring Expo 2005 Will Be Huge for LSA
Last year the Sebring (FL) Airport broke new ground with their U.S. Sport Aviation Expo at the end of October. Expo is on again for 2005 and will have the largest collection of Light-Sport Aircraft anywhere. Organizer Bob Wood reports, “I expect over 130 aircraft on display.” By any measure, that deserves a “Wow!” Sebring was also named GA Airport of the Year and just signed a deal to be the home of the new Cub Air Academy. The latter is a well-funded effort to introduce more folks to flying LSA in a structured environment. I highly recommend the “Sebring Expo.” If you can come, look me up…

Sebring LSA Expo Next Week!
This year’s LSA bash in Sebring which starts next Thursday, 17 January and runs through the weekend looks to be far and away the best ever. Jana Filip and crew have been working hard all year to make this a top professional event.
Lots of new things in addition to the usual comfy, cozy gathering that’s LSA-only include a twilight airshow (can you spell Patty Wagstaff?), Seaplane Pilot’s Association Seaplane Base at Lake Jackson, Model Airplane Contest, a fully restored American Airlines DC-3 on display, and…oh yeah…tons of top LSA demos for you to get up close and personal with. Here’s some hot points:
• 80+ inside exhibitors; • 80+ outside exhibitors • 20,000+ attendance expected • keynote speeches by Randy Babbitt (former FAA head) and Patty Wagstaff • lots of new product rollouts including at least a couple LSA I’ve heard about through the grapevine. • …and the 3rd annual Bahamas flyout for four days of island fun, mon.
Sebring LSA Expo Next Week!
Anybody who’s got an LSA bee in their bonnet knows that “Sebring”, like Sun ‘n Fun and Oshkosh, has become synonymous with Light Sport aviation’s very own special show. *** Sebring: home of the famous endurance car race. Sebring: the first big aviation show of the year, and it’s all LSA! I can’t wait! *** LSA doyen Dan Johnson has a great laundry list of highlights on his LSA website so I’ll briefly reprise and add a couple tidbits of my own. *** First off, it’s the sixth year for the show, officially dubbed Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo. Last year was an attendance record-setter. This year who can say with the economy? But Sebring should be notable for some key developments in the exciting expansion of the Sport Pilot/Light Sport phenomenon that’s revitalizing GA almost singlehandedly. *** First, who’s coming? *** Lots of major players, and none is generating more buzz than Piper Aircraft.
