Among all Light-Sport Aircraft, some of the most intriguing new design qualities are emerging from LSA seaplanes. Icon’s A5 has gained a ton of attention but here’s a new entry from Vickers Aircraft of New Zealand. This aircraft is -not- yet flying (as of late 2016) but is such an innovative engineering exercise that we wanted to interview designer Paul Vickers when he was in the USA arranging aspects of Wave’s debut in America. Stay tuned; we’re sure to have more!

Well seems to me Icon has an airplane that flies. Vickers has a name of a great hydraulics company. Vickers does have a design. Why is it no one has a 4 seater if you were going to use this to move people around to remote areas? Seems strange I wrote to SeaRey about this no response to emails or phone calls either. I looked at a Brazilian manufacturer. I wonder if Miguel will respond or not. My name is Michael, Miguel in Spanish. Folding wings are nice but I wonder if the New Zealander will call me. Hi Michael: A Light-Sport Aircraft is limited to two seats, explaining why Wave, SeaMax, and A5 are all two seaters. Four seater seaplanes are available but as they require full FAA certification, they are vastly more expensive. This seating fact and your inquiry about a four seater may explain why these companies did not know how to respond to you. Searey and SeaMax are in production now and you can buy one now. Icon has a long delivery delay at present and Wave is still in development. Remember, these are small companies; please give them adequate time to respond.
YoDaddy says
The A5 is a single-seat aircraft.
Dan Johnson says
Hi YoDaddy: Well, A5 is a two seater but you probably mean it cannot carry two large pilots and full fuel plus luggage. The Vickers Wave may. Stay turned for news from them …soon.
David says
A very nicely thought out concept indeed. Well done.

When does the lawsuits between Vickers and Icon begin?
Dan Johnson says
Why do you believe lawsuits may happen, Robert?
