The Hawk series from CGS Aviation is one of our light aviation stalwarts. With more than 1,500 flying since 1983, Hawk is well established and enjoys a great accident record. It flies wonderfully but what may be Hawk’s best sales feature in these days of $130,000 LSA is the l-o-w price. Check the video (near the end) to hear price info.

I realize several years have passed since you interviewed Danny Desosh about the Hawk. Today while looking around the ultralight briar patch I decided to check out his site.. even though at the end of the interview he mentioned a price tag of something like $55k, which I think is outrageous.
Since the very beginning of the ultralights getting permission from the FAA I’ve followed the sport. As I recall, it was said to be a sport designed for the average person. The planes were to be slow and AFFORDABLE for the average person. I suppose I’m not an average person since I do not have $55K of DISPOSABLE income now that I’m retired. I certainly didn’t have it when I was working shift work for 35 years to support my family.
Anyway, when I went to the site mentioned on the interview, CGSaviation.com it showed the site is not operational and asked if it was my site. Then I finally saw that the company was located in Florida but the phone number shown was in someplace else. Any ideas?

Hi Dave: A couple points and then a link… First, I recall the $55,000 number was for a fully-built Special Light-Sport Aircraft model. The cost of obtaining FAA acceptance raises the price but you can likely spend much less on a kit. Secondly, did you miss this article about a used CGS Hawk? If you purchase carefully, you could get airborne for much less than $10,000 (but you need to inspect the used aircraft carefully as specified in the article). Finally, here is the current contact for CGS Hawk Aviation.
