Congratulations to Jovie on being selected as the 2022 FMA Solo scholarship recipient. We are so excited to share her journey with you. She is certain to inspire, encourage, educate, and assist others pursuing their goals.  Read post from Jovie as she takes to the air.

Hi! My name is Jovie and I am an aspiring pilot and avid musician. I have been playing flute for the past eight years, and more recently have added on piccolo. I play in the top orchestra in my school, am in my school’s chamber club and have been part of many youth orchestras around Seattle over the years. I have also spent time tutoring flute to elementary school students. For the past several years I have been interested in aerospace, namely fluid dynamics and model rocketry, but since then, I have realized that what I like to do best is truly experience my accomplishments. So, I have turned to aviation, and becoming a pilot. In the fall, I will attend Vanderbilt university where I plan to major in mechanical engineering and minor in music performance while still managing to get in flight hours.

  1. Hi Jovie, how do you like Vanderbilt? It is so exciting to see other musicians who want to be pilots. Good luck on your journey, and don’t forget to enjoy it!

  2. While at Vanderbilt, I hope you have flown over the beautiful snow capped mountains this winter, I recently went up and saw our local mountain range with snow and it was breathtaking. Best of luck on your adventures!

  3. Congratulations Jovie! It is amazing reading about others passion for music and aviation and their unique journeys in each area. I too play the piano having played for eleven years now, and I aspire to be a commercial airline pilot. I also have done volunteering for music/piano ( I volunteered at Friends of Children With Special Needs), so it’s interesting to hear how others have found ways to contribute to the diverse music community. Good luck at Vanderbilt! Congratulations once again!

  4. Congratulations Jovie! I hope that you have been able to get in much flying and music. Both are skills that treat you well in the future.

  5. Congratulations 🙂 I hope your flight training treats you well and I have the upmost confidence you will be an amazing pilot. You’ve got this girl.
